The Lokayukta police on Tuesday trapped a senior health inspector of the Greater Bengaluru Authority while allegedly accepting a bribe for issuing a trade licence to a pharmacy owner.

According to Lokayukta officials, the accused, Shrijesh N.K., 52, a senior health inspector attached to the Chickpet division at Sajjan Rao Circle, had allegedly demanded ₹15,000 from a pharmacy owner for processing and issuing a trade licence.

The complainant, Nanjegowda B.S., 41, who runs a pharmacy business in Devarachikkanahalli, approached the Lokayukta alleging that the official had sought a bribe.

Officials said the accused had already accepted ₹5,000 on June 15 and demanded the remaining amount.

Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta registered a case under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and laid a trap.

The accused was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the remaining ₹10,000 from the complainant.

He has been arrested under PC act and further investigation is on.
