Krishna District Collector D.K. Balaji urged the officials of various departments to work with coordination and take steps to prevent road accidents.

Speaking at the Road Safety Committee meeting here on Monday, the Collector said that 121 people died and 305 were injured in 277 road accidents from January to May of this year. Of the total, 113 two-wheelers and 73 cars, jeeps and other vehicles were involved in road mishaps. Meanwhile, 138 accidents occurred on the national highways, 49 on State highways, and 90 occurred on other roads, Mr. Balaji said.

He directed the NHAI and police officers to identify the black spots, arrange high mast lights and caution boards on the national and State highways to prevent accidents. Awareness should be conducted for two-wheeler riders on the mandatory use of helmets and to avoid rash and drunk driving to keep a check on road mishaps, the Collector said.

Additional Superintendent of Police V.V. Naidu, District Transport Commissioner Srinivas, District Public Transport Officer Venkateswarlu, R&B Executive Engineer Lokeswara Rao, Municipal Commissioner Bapi Raju, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Yugandhar and others officers participated in the meeting.
