Police broke into the residence of Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat’s Patuapara Road in the early hours of Saturday (June 13, 2026) morning. Personnel from Salboni police station in the State’s Paschim Medinipur district entered the Trinamool leader’s residence and said that they were looking for Sumit Roy, the personnel assistant of Abhishek Banerjee.

A complaint against Mr. Roy was filed at the Salboni Police Station. The police are looking for Sumit Roy in a financial embezzlement case. A district police officer said that the ‘tower location’ of the personal assistant's mobile was last seen at Abhishek Banerjee's house. Accusing the police of harassment, the Trinamool general secretary said that he had recorded the police action in the early hours of Saturday (June 13).

Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee reached Abhishek Banerjee’s house in the morning after hearing about the police operation on Saturday (June 13) morning. The former Chief Minister did not want to comment on the police action.

Mr. Banerjee has been summoned in several cases, including the West Bengal Assembly signature scandal for the second occasion on June 14 and by the Enforcement Directorate in a recruitment scam on June 15. On June 16, he has been asked to appear before CID in connection with another case involving making provocative speech during the election campaign. On June 11, Mr. Banerjee was questioned by the CID for over five hours in the signature scandal.

Speaking to media persons on Friday (June 12) evening, Abhishek Banerjee said that he had learnt that the CID team had arrived at my residence.

“I requested my office staff to receive the notice, but the officers did not hand it over. I was not able to leave the meeting midway. The next time CID visits, I would request the officers to contact me beforehand so that I can personally receive the notice. I have never tried to evade the investigation and have always extended full cooperation,” the Diamond Harbour MP said.

Meanwhile, officials of the ED conducted searches at seven places in Kolkata and its suburbs on Saturday (June 13) morning in connection with the investigation into allegations of corruption at Kamarhati municipality. The house and office of Kamarhati Trinamool MLA Madan Mitra are being searched. According to central agency sources, Mr. Mitra has been accused of illegally providing jobs in several municipalities for pecuniary gains.
