Andhra Pradesh Minister for Mines and Geology Kollu Ravindra on Thursday (June 12, 2026) alleged that the State’s mining sector was systematically weakened during the previous YSRCP government’s term with political interference, harassment of mining operators, and irregular practices that stalled legitimate operations.

Speaking to the media after inspecting a granite quarry at Valasapalli on the outskirts of Madanapalle in Annamayya district, Mr. Ravindra alleged that during the YSRCP regime, several quarry owners were harassed with false cases, raids, and coercive methods, while many others forced to shut down their units. “Valuable natural resources were ruthlessly exploited for vested interests, which resulted in huge losses to the State exchequer and the mining industry,” Mr. Ravindra said.

The Minister said the NDA government had initiated steps to expose the alleged irregularities by releasing White Papers and taking remedial measures to restore investor confidence. “Despite the damage to the mining sector during the previous years, the coalition government could lead it to a remarkable 40% increase in revenue. This indicates a turnaround in the sector’s fortunes,” he said.

Mr. Ravaindra reiterated that the NDA government was committed to bringing all mining leases into productive use and transforming Andhra Pradesh into a national model in the mining sector. Highlighting the potential of the Madanapalle region in mining with substantial deposits of quartz, limestone, granite, and iron ore, the Minister said that efforts were underway to expand access to international markets.

The Minister further blamed the previous YSRCP government for “depriving” the Vaddera community of quarry lease reservations. He cautioned that illegal mining would not be tolerated. “A dedicated vigilance mechanism is monitoring operations across the State. At the same time, the government will never compromise on environmental safeguards,” he said.
