Heavy rain in the last two days has brought relief to farmers in some parts of North Karnataka.
Most farmers have begun ploughing and sowing operations just as the intensity of rainfall reduced on Tuesday. And, some have begun preparing land anticipating further rainfall.
There were some reports of damage too. As many as eight houses were damaged in Bailhongal.
Water gushed into some low-lying areas in Athani, Jamkhandi and Vijayapura taluks, flooding roads and also, entering some houses.
YouTuber Ishwar Shiledar sat under a pole during heavy rain as a means of protest against the Bailhongal municipal administration’s dereliction of duty. He ended his protest after assurances from Municipal Commissioner Bhagyashree Huggi.
The police stopped traffic over some bridge-cum-barrages in Saundatti, Bailhongal and Chikkodi taluks of Belagavi district.
Water levels in dams, however, have not changed significantly, as water release from Maharashtra is not very high.
The Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha has 8.9 tmcft of water against a gross capacity of 37.731 tmcft. Inflow was almost zero and outflow 194 cusecs.
The Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir over the Ghataprabha near Hidkal has a live storage of 8.41 tmcft against a gross capacity of 51.00 tmcft. The inflow was almost zero and outflow 119 cusecs.
In the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir over the Krishna at Almatti, water level stood at 22.53 tmcft against a gross capacity of 123.081 tmcft. Inflow was almost zero and outflow 903 cusecs.
Hippargi barrage recorded an average inflow and outflow of 230 cusecs.
