Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder-president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Friday (June 5, 2026) said that the Congress’ Rajya Sabha nominee Praveen Chakravarty had sought the VCK’s support before filing his nomination.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that Mr. Chakravarty had informed him that he would be filing the nomination, and that former MLA S.S. Balaji had been asked to participate on behalf of the VCK. Asked about the name coined for the post-poll alliance, led by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Mr. Chakravarthy’s post, Mr. Thirumavalavan said: “I don’t know about that. The TVK may be thinking of talking to us about it.”
On the “heckling” of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai, allegedly by some DMK cadre, Mr. Thirumavalavan said, “The DMK’s alliance stuck together for 10 years. After the results, there were urgent post-poll alliances. It is obvious that the DMK cadre couldn’t accept it. It is worrying.”
