A deputy collector in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman on the pretext of marriage, just months after he was suspended for alleged misconduct with another woman, police said on Thursday (June 4, 2026).

According to the police, a 30-year-old woman gave a complaint in the Civil Lines police station in Morena city against Deputy Collector Arvind Mahour alleging that he had sexually exploited her on multiple occasions by promising to marry her.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Chambal Range, Sunil Kumar Jain, told The Hindu that Mr. Mahour was arrested late on Wednesday (June 3) night after an FIR was filed against him under relevant provisions, including Section 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“He was produced before a court today [Thursday] and has been sent to judicial custody,” Mr. Jain said, adding that the woman has alleged that he exploited her on various occasions, including when he was posted as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Sabalgarh area.

A police officer at the police station said that the woman has also alleged that their relationship went on for over a year and that he “made relations with her” several times between March, 2025 and June, 2026.

“She has said that he also took her to government guest houses on some occasions,” the officer said, requesting anonymity.

The woman has also accused Mr. Mahour of threaten to harm her and her family when she asked him to marry her, the officer added.

Mr. Mahour was earlier suspended in September with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav himself taking note of the complaints against him and ordering action against him.

Mr. Mahour had been accused of misconduct with a woman as well as of irregularities in transfers of patwaris during his tenure as SDM, Sabalgarh.

He was, however, reinstated sometime later.
