Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday instructed officials of the Department of Natural Resources to take steps to ensure proper and sustainable use of mineral resources and prevent illegal transportation of minerals.
Mr. Vijay chaired a review meeting on the functioning of the Natural Resources Department at the Secretariat on Thursday. According to an official release, the functioning of the Department of Geology and Mining and steps taken to make Tamil Nadu a leading State in mineral resource management through scientific mineral exploration were discussed during the meeting.
Discussions were also held on the use of modern technologies to prevent illegal transportation of minerals and measures to increase revenue from mineral extraction. Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources N. Anand, Minister for Natural Resources T.K. Prabhu, Minister for Finance N. Marie Wilson, Chief Secretary M. Saikumar, and Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) M.A. Siddique, participated.
