A Class VIII student was killed after the plastering of the roof of the house collapsed on him in Gudiyatham town in Vellore on Wednesday due to rain.
The deceased boy was identified as Mohammed Abdullah, 15. He is one of four children to the couple Salalurdin and Hameshta. The couple worked in a private shoe company in the area. Initial inquiry revealed that the dilapidated structure became weak after heavy rain lashed the region for the past few days. The incident occurred around noon.
Parents and neighbours rushed the boy to Government Taluk Hospital in Gudiyatham where he succumbed to injuries. On being informed, Gudiyatham Town police inspected the house. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
