
A notification for commencing the process of biennial elections — scheduled for June 18 — to fill four vacancies in the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, was issued on Monday. The vacancies will be filled through polling, during which Karnataka MLAs will exercise their franchise.
The biennial elections have been necessitated due to the retirements of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, and BJP members Iranna Kadadi and Narayana Koragappa on June 25.

June 8 is the last day for filing nominations, which will be scrutinised on June 9. The last day for withdrawal of nominations is June 11.
On the first day, no nominations were filed for the Rajya Sabha polls.
Polling will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 18. Counting of votes will be taken up at 5 p.m. on the same day.
