The Andhra Pradesh government has released ₹17.58 crore as the second instalment of compensation to farmers who surrendered land for the Guntur Channel expansion project, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications and Guntur Lok Sabha member Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said.
The compensation has been credited to the bank accounts of farmers from seven villages, Yanamadala, Prathipadu, Garapadu, Kondepadu, Mallayapalem, GG Palem and Ravipadu, who cooperated with the land acquisition for the channel modernisation and expansion works.
Mr. Pemmasani said the latest release comes in addition to the ₹10.54 crore paid earlier, taking the total compensation disbursed to affected farmers to ₹28.12 crore. He said the project is progressing steadily, with coordinated efforts to address issues related to land acquisition, fund allocation and implementation.
Expressing satisfaction over the release of the second instalment, the minister said the government had honoured the trust reposed by farmers by ensuring timely compensation.
