The Kalyana Karnataka Horata Samiti has urged the Congress high command to provide greater representation to the Kalyana Karnataka region in the proposed new State Cabinet by allocating at least eight ministerial berths to leaders from the region.
In a press release on Friday (May 29, 2026), Horata Samiti honorary president Basavaraj Deshmukh and founder president Laxman Dasti said the region, which continues to face development challenges, should be entrusted with key portfolios such as irrigation, public works, industries, secondary and higher education, planning, health, medical education and tourism.
The Samiti called for focused efforts towards the region’s long-term development through effective implementation of Article 371(J) and the recommendations of the Govind Rao Committee. It also urged the government to expedite the establishment of a separate ministry for Kalyana Karnataka, in line with earlier decisions taken by the State government.
Describing the proposed ministry as a long-pending public demand, Mr Dasti stated that it should be headed by a representative from the region to ensure better understanding of local developmental priorities and administrative needs.
The Samiti appealed to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to give serious consideration to the demand for greater representation of Kalyana Karnataka in the new Cabinet. Samiti members said Mr Kharge, who has an understanding of the region’s socio-economic and developmental issues, is well placed to ensure that the interests of the region are adequately reflected in the formation of the Cabinet and in the allocation of key portfolios.
