The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a nominated Member of the Cantonment Board in Meerut for allegedly demanding and receiving ₹3 lakh in bribe.
The accused has been identified as Satish Kumar Sharma. He was posted as the nominated Member of the Cantonment Board in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. It is alleged that Mr. Sharma demanded illegal gratification for the smooth continuation of a tender for parking, canteen, and entry fees of Gandhi Bagh, Meerut Cantt.
The tender has been awarded to a private firm, being operated by the complainant on behalf of his mother, through an e-auction for ₹76.34 lakh. The accused had threatened to get the tender cancelled on some flimsy ground if the bribe was not paid.
Acting on the complaint and initial findings, the CBI registered a case and laid a trap. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting ₹3 lakh from the complainant, said the agency.
