In a student-centric initiative, the Central University of Rajasthan (CUoR) has launched a new research promotion scheme for scholars to empower them financially and encourage them to pursue quality research without financial stress. Research scholars admitted from the academic session of 2025 onwards will be eligible for the scheme’s benefits.

Under the scheme, the research scholars will receive an additional financial support of ₹5,000 per month over and above the existing non-National Eligibility Test (NET) fellowship of the University Grants Commission (UGC). An additional contingency grant of ₹10,000 will also be provided to support research-related expenses.

CUoR Vice-Chancellor Anand Bhalerao said on Saturday (May 24, 2026) that the non-NET fellowship amount presently paid was often found to be insufficient for scholars to effectively meet their academic and day-to-day needs. “The new initiative will attract meritorious students towards research and promote a strong culture of innovation and academic excellence,” Prof. Bhalerao said.

Research scholars will continue to receive the existing non-NET fellowship of ₹8,000 per month during the coursework, while the eligible scholars will get the additional support of ₹5,000 from the second semester onwards. From the third semester, continuation of the support will be based on the annual progress review conducted at the beginning of the second, third, and fourth year of the Ph.D. programme.

The CUoR, situated at Bandar Sindri in Ajmer district, will introduce a structured mechanism to monitor the eligibility and evaluation process under the scheme, which will extend the benefit to the scholars continuing in the university for a minimum of three years. Prof. Bhalerao said investing in research scholars would be an investment in the future of knowledge, innovation and nation-building.
