At least 13 people have been killed and 20 others were injured in an accident on Monday (May 18, 2026) in Dhanivari region in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, where a container vehicle rammed into a truck carrying a wedding party on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.

According to police, the truck was carrying at least 40 people from the Bapugaon region to Dhanivari for an engagement ceremony around 4 p.m.

“The Eicher Tempo bearing registration number MH 48 DC 7474, carrying the wedding party, was allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the Mumbai-Gujarat carriageway at the time of the accident. The vehicle collided with a trailer truck (NL 01 AC 9118) near Dhaniwari village around 4 pm. In the accident, the motorcycle (MH 04 EM 8425) got caught,” as per the statement released by Palghar district administration, confirming 13 deaths.

Those dead included nine men and four women, and around 14 critically injured survivors were shifted to Vedantaa Hospital in Dahanu taluka, and the rest were taken to Kasa Sub-District Hospital.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each to the kin of all the 13 deceased.

Mr. Fadnavis said, “The 13 persons died in the accidents, and the injured have been admitted to the sub-district hospital at Kasa and in Dhundalwadi. I am in constant touch with the district administration and the Superintendent of Police.”
