Former President Biden on Monday lauded President Trump’s recent peace effort for Israel’s war in Gaza after all 20 living Israeli hostages were returned by Hamas.

“I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come – for the last living 20 hostages who have been through unimaginable hell and are finally reunited with their families and loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who have experienced immeasurable loss and will finally get the chance to rebuild their lives,” Biden said in a lengthy post on the social platform X.

“The road to this deal was not easy. My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line,” he added.

The living hostages were returned by Hamas on Monday, with the two sides undertaking the first phase of a peace deal supported by the Trump administration. Israel also freed more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners on Monday as part of the ceasefire deal.

"Now, with the backing of the United States and the world, the Middle East is on a path to peace that I hope endures and a future for Israelis and Palestinians alike with equal measures of peace, dignity, and safety," Biden said in his Monday post.

On Sunday, former Biden national security adviser Jake Sullivan backed President Trump getting credit for the deal between Israel and Hamas.

“Do you think he deserves credit here?” CNN’s Dana Bash asked Sullivan on “State of the Union.”

“Of course he does. And I give credit to President Trump, I give credit to [Steve] Witkoff and [Jared] Kushner and [Secretary of State Marco] Rubio. These are hard jobs,” Sullivan replied.
