US president says Canada’s move, following similar announcements by France and the UK, ‘will make it very hard for us’ to conclude trade deal

The United States believes it has the makings of a trade deal with China, but it is “not 100% done,” US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC in an interview, adding that he would talk to US president Donald Trump later on Thursday.

Bessent also said he did not know what would happen with trade with India, saying it had “not been a great global actor”.
