Karimnagar District Bar Association general secretary Bethi Mahender Reddy has called upon candidates in the fray for the Legislative Council elections from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ Constituency to strive to get the long-pending demands of advocates resolved.

Those who write a bond paper that they would strive to ensure enactment of the Advocates Protection Act would get votes of advocates, Mr. Reddy said in a statement.

It is imperative to enact the Advocates Protection Act to safeguard advocates’ fraternity, he said, demanding that a separate legislation should be enacted to create “Advocates MLC Constituency” on the lines of the Teachers’ Constituency.

Some of the demands of advocates include monthly stipend to junior lawyers, Advocates’ Welfare Fund with a corpus of ₹1,000 crore and formation of Advocates’ Housing Society.
