Thoothukudi customs officials seized essentials, firecrackers, and neuro tablets worth around ₹70 lakh near Inigo Nagar coastal area in Thoothukudi, according to information available on Thursday.
Following a tip-off about the contraband hidden near the forest area close to Inigo Nagar, the officials conducted a search in the area and discovered 70 gunny bags hidden near the Inigo Nagar coast.
Upon inspection, 60 gunny bags were found to contain 3,000 kg of tamarind, each weighing 50 kg. Additionally 10 bags were filled with firecrackers and neuro tablets. The officials seized the contraband and investigation is under way to identify those involved in the smuggling.
