A man drowned and another went missing while celebrating Kaanum Pongal at Kodiyampalayam beach near Sirkazhi.
The two individuals, identified as Jagan Prathap, 20, and Mohanakrishnan, 29, residents of Ambedkar Nagar in Varakurpettai, Chidambaram, visited Kodiyampalayam Beach here on Thursday to celebrate Kaanum Pongal.
While bathing in the sea, they were allegedly dragged into deep waters by strong waves. Upon receiving information, local fishermen and police launched a search operation.
Mohanakrishnan’s body was found washed ashore on Thursday and was sent to Sirkazhi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. The search is on for Jagan Prathap. The Kollidam police have registered a case.
