Chikkamagaluru Police on Friday took custody of six Maoists, who assimilated to the mainstream recently and brought them to Chikkamagaluru from Bengaluru for interrogation.

The police appealed to the Special NIA court in Bengaluru for the custody of the Maoists in connection with the cases they are facing in the Chikkamagaluru district. The court granted police custody of the Maoists for six days. The Maoists surrendered and assimilated to the mainstream in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on January 8.

Jayanna, Sundari, Vanajakshi, Mundagaru Latha, Jisha, and Ramesh were brought in police vehicles to Chikkamagaluru. Senior police officers were interrogating them in the city. The Maoists have been facing many cases in different police stations of Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Hassan, and Udupi districts.

Of the total 13 cases filed against Jayanna in Karnataka, three were registered in Chikkamagaluru district. Sundari has 23 cases against her in the state and among them three were in Chikkamgaluru. Vanajakshi has 25 against her and of them, 19 were registered in Chikkamagaluru. Among 65 cases filed against Mundagaru Latha, 43 in Chikkamagaluru. Jisha from Kerala has one case registered at Jayapura in Chikkamgaluru, and Ramesh from Tamil Nadu also has one case in the district.
