Following a disappointing season for the Dallas Cowboys, the organization and head coach Mike McCarthy are expected to open talks on a new contract.

McCarthy\'s current deal expires next Tuesday, and owner Jerry Jones has yet to commit to him moving forward after the team went 7-10 and missed the playoffs.

However, according to NFL Network\'s Tom Pelissero, the sides are expected to open contract talks on Friday and \'remain open\' to working together. 

That development comes after several days of reported discussions between McCarthy and the franchise, though no formal negotiations have taken place yet.

Pelissero noted that there are still \'other issues\' to work through, and most of McCarthy\'s assistants would be able to take next jobs from next Tuesday.

Dallas previously rejected the Chicago Bears\' request to interview McCarthy for their head coaching position.

McCarthy has gone 49-35 in five seasons with Dallas and has never reached the NFC Championship game in that span.

However, he\'s also been without quarterback Dak Prescott for long stretches in two separate seasons, as the passer played just eight games this year after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury.
