A 56-year-old man, Sajeven Mangadi from Oorumanayur, was sentenced by the Fast Track Special Court, Chavakkad, to 130 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹8,75,000 for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy. If the fine is not paid, an additional 35 months of imprisonment will be imposed.
The incident occurred in April 2023, when Sajeven sexually assaulted the minor boy. Several months after the assault, the child disclosed the incident to his family.
The family reported the matter to the Chavakkad police station, where civil police officer Praseetha recorded the child’s statement. Based on this, Sub-Inspector Cecil Christian Raj registered an FIR and initiated the investigation.
Inspector Vivek K. Vengopal continued the investigation in the case and submitted the chargesheet in the court. In addition to this case, the accused is also facing two other POCSO cases at the station.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 13 witnesses and presented 16 documents.
