The State government has initiated measures to see that all the 65 newly formed taluks will have their own taluk office building in two years, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said in Belagavi on Wednesday.

He was responding to a question by member Jagadev Guttedar in the Legislative Council.

The last government issued orders to form 65 new taluks, but issued orders only to create infrastructure facilities, including own buildings named Praja Soudha, for only 14 of them. “But we sanctioned funds for own buildings and other infrastructure facilities for 27 more taluks,” he said.

Layouts for ex-servicemen

The State government will direct Deputy Commissioners in all districts to create residential layouts for ex-servicemen, the Minister said in response to a question by member C.N. Manje Gowda.

The Jawan Samman Layouts will provide sites to retired army personnel. This in accordance with the resettlement rule amended in 2021, about distribution of sites to such retired soldiers. The original rule said each such beneficiary had to get two acres of farmland. But finding land is getting more and more difficult by the day, he said.

The Minister said that 16,065 ex-servicemen in the State had applied for land grants. Of them, 6,783 applications have been disposed of and 9,282 were are pending, Mr. Gowda said.
