The State government is planning to have a coordinated effort in the area of palliative care, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Monday. This was one of the three themes discussed at a meeting of all governing councils of all local bodies in the State convened by Mr. Vijayan.

Through the initiative on palliative care, the government hopes to ensure care to patients, elderly citizens and differently-abled individuals irrespective of whether they belong to the APL or BPL categories, Mr. Vijayan said.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s plan to declare the State completely waste-free by March 30, 2025, and eradicate extreme poverty by November 1, 2025.

Mr. Vijayan urged the local bodies to expedite activities in the three areas with public participation. The initiative to declare Kerala waste-free by March 30, 2025, will cover tourism centres, ‘Ayalkootam’ collectives, rural and urban locations, offices and educational institutions.
