Kolleru Lake in Eluru district is under threat due to a massive flood of thousands of cusecs flowing into the lake through 14 channels and 15 canals, including Budameru, Ramileru, Tammileru, Chandraya Canal, Madepalli Channel, Pothunuri Channel, and Dosapadu Channel.\n

In this context, residents of 44 inland Lankan villages in the vicinity of Kolleru Lake are feeling anxious about the potential threat to their villages. Each year, about 10,000 cusecs of floodwater from the upper areas flows into the sea through the Sarkaru Channel via the Saltwater Channel from Kolleru Lake.\n

However, as part of the railway doubling works, large pillars have been erected in the middle of the Saltwater Channel, obstructing the flow. Additionally, the horseshoe and calf structures in the area have been affected, further hindering the water’s movement.\n

As a result, there is concern that Kolleru Lake could be at risk. Eluru District Collector Vetriselvi and Dendulur MLA Chinthamaneni Prabhakar visited the affected areas on Wednesday. They reassured the locals, stating that they are prepared to handle any situation and that there is no need for fear.
