Team GB men\'s hockey team have crashed out of the Paris Olympics after losing to India on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Paul Revington\'s side started brightly and looked to be in pole position to qualify for the semi-finals when India were reduced to 10 men in the second quarter after Amit Rohidas was sent off for catching Will Calnan in the face with his hockey stick.

However, India took the lead shortly afterwards through captain Harmanpreet Singh only for Lee Morton to restore parity.

GB pushed for a winner over the next two quarters but could not find a breakthrough as India held firm to force a shootout.

The first two penalties from both teams were successfully converted, but Lee Williamson then missed the target and Phillip Roper had his effort well saved by India goalkeeper PR Sreejash.

Raj Kumar Pal coolly stepped up to slot home the winning goal as India triumphed 4-2 on penalties.

His goal sparked jubilant celebrations from the Indian players, but it was heartbreak for Team GB.

They had impressed in the group stage, fighting back from two goals down to earn a draw against world No1 side the Netherlands.

But they were just edged out by India on Sunday morning and will leave Paris empty-handed.

The men\'s team have not won an Olympic medal since 1988, and their wait will now stretch to at least 40 years ahead of the next Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Team GB\'s women have their own quarter-final still to come on Monday.

They will face defending Olympic champions the Netherlands after losing their final group game to Argentina on Saturday.
