Pune: An 82-year-old male resident of Indranagar in Dahanukar Colony, Kothrud, has been confirmed as the latest Zika-positive case in the city. This has taken the total count of confirmed Zika cases in the city to 33 at the moment.The senior citizen in question has been presenting with fever since July 15. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 18. He is still hospitalised and is currently stable.Of the 33 confirmed cases, four are still hospitalized and are undergoing treatment. All four hospitalised patients are senior citizens.As of Monday, the civic body surveyed over 31,000 homes, of which 917 were found contaminated with mosquito larvae and eggs.Within the areas of outbreak, there are a total of 3,795 pregnant women registered with the hospitals in those areas. Of these, 306 have been tested for Zika. Out of the total confirmed cases in Pune city at present, 11 are pregnant women. Zika virus infection during pregnancy has been linked to a birth defect known as microcephaly.The total count of Zika cases in the state went up to 38 on Monday. Besides the 33 cases reported in Pune city, two from Pune rural, one from Kolhapur city and three from Ahmednagar.
