President Joe Biden has agreed to bow out of the 2024 race, journalist and Newsmax commentator Mark Halperin reported on Thursday, citing sources. This comes as key Democratic sources told Axios that the 81-year-old could withdraw from the presidential election as early as this weekend.

Newsmax\'s Halperin further cited his source to add that Biden will not endorse Kamala Harris. She would face an open convention for the Democratic Party\'s official nomination next month.

Neither Joe Biden nor his campaign have reacted to the report yet. This dramatic development comes as several media outlets reported that Biden is expected to call it quits this weekend.

Former President Barack Obama has privately expressed concerns to Democrats about President Joe Biden’s candidacy, according to reports and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned the 81-year-old that Democrats could lose the ability to seize control in the House if he didn’t step away from the race.

Meanwhile, Biden is still experiencing mild upper respiratory symptoms from COVID-19, the president’s doctor said on Thursday. Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a statement that the Democrat does not have a fever and his vital signs remain normal. He’s being treated with the drug Paxlovid.

The White House announced Wednesday that Biden had tested positive for COVID-19 while traveling in Las Vegas. The president canceled an appearance in Nevada and kept prearranged plans to travel to his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He’s isolating there.
