A 74-year-old man dies from Zika infection in Karnataka’s Shivamogga amid rise in infection in India. Reports say that the man passed away on Friday. The elderly man was suffering from other illnesses along with Zika infection. Officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department reported that he was under the treatment of urinary infection and breathing problems both of which could also have been factors that influenced his death. However, after testing his blood samples, he had tested positive for Zika infection as well. He was admitted to a private hospital in Shivamogga.

Reports say that after treatment, he had returned home for recovery but he passed away on Friday. District Health Official still maintains their statement to the media by saying that Zika virus infection alone could not have caused his death. He also warned that as for the spread of Zika infection in the state, pregnant women are vulnerable and it could be serious if they got infected. In other cases, it may not be as serious but for pregnant women, the infection can spread to the foetus.

Besides the death of this elderly man from Shivamogga, another case in Karnataka was reported in Sagar. As per reports from the DHO, sample has been sent to NIV unit in Bengaluru and the infection is yet to be confirmed.
