A new restaurant in Bengaluru offers the hospitality and warm ambience of an Indian home

In a super fresh take on modern India, Kavya Sheth and Shruthy Sanghvi founders of Studio Ruh reimagine the bungalow’s exterior that celebrate raw, honest materials — beige tiles, brick perforations, wide cement steps, and a row of lush tropical plants. Standing tall at 12 feet, a magnificent green portal with meticulously crafted brass handles creates a striking contrast against the beige exterior. For visual interest, a rhythmic alternation of fine brick perforations and glazing opens the facade, cleverly blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces. The finished space embraces Vastu Shastra, and is divided into distinct pockets, each offering a unique dining experience. The architects embraced the voluminous space – 12’ and 14’ tall ceilings and used a rich material palette to delineate its spatial features.

Teakwood beading adds visual interest. Green is a constant theme across the restaurant, as seen in a stunning rug from Beruru forming the focal point in this dining pocket.

Floating banana fibre lights measuring a whopping 5’ in diameter illuminate the central waiting space. These bespoke lights custom made by Oorjaa are a nod to the fresh marigolds. Beyond the central waiting space, a walkway leads to an expansive dining area lined with brick walls that contrast the black and green tiled floor. Accenting the interior are curved ceilings softening the linearity of the space, leatherite banquettes and upholstered chairs. A baffle ceiling extends beyond the coconut trees, defining another dining pocket — outfitted with rattan banquettes, offering ample indoor-outdoor seating. Greenery scattered throughout the interior introduces an element of warmth.

A cluster of stunning larger-than-life banana fiber lights custom-made by Oorjaa Lights inspired by marigold flowers greet guests at the entrance.
