    Dalit woman protests ‘molestation bid, pushed into hot cauldron of oil | Lucknow News


    An 18-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly pushed into a cauldron of hot oil by the owner of an oil mill and two of his associates after she protested a “sexual harassment bid” by them in Baghpat on Wednesday evening, police said.

    The woman was rushed to a hospital in New Delhi with burn injuries on half of her body, legs and arms, said police

    According to police, all three accused have been arrested. The area police station in charge told The Indian Express, “ We have arrested the oil mill owner and his two associates under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 307 (attempt to murder) and provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act based on the complaint lodged by the woman’s brother on Wednesday night.”

    In his police complaint, the woman’s brother said they had been working as labourers at the oil mill for the past four months.

    “My sister was working at the mill on the evening of December 27 when the mill owner and his two associates tried to molest her. When she resisted, they first hurled casteist abuses at her and then pushed her into the hot oil cauldron on the premises and fled the scene,” the brother alleged.

    The brother said they first took her sister to a local hospital, where she was referred to the Delhi hospital.

    Baghpat Deputy SP Vijay Chaudhary said, “We have arrested all the three accused soon after the complaint was lodged at area police station. We have been told that the condition of the victim is stable and we will make sure the culprits get strict punishment for their despicable act.”
