\nTesla is poised to establish its car manufacturing plant in Gujarat, with the official announcement expected during the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2024, top sources said. The announcement regarding the same is likely to be made in presence of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, adding an air of excitement to the summit.
Gujarat, with its strategic location and favorable business environment, has emerged as the preferred destination for Tesla’s manufacturing endeavors. The state government has given the choice of Sanand, Becharaji and Dholera to the company to set up its manufacturing plant.
Sources said Gujarat aligns well with Tesla’s export-oriented approach to cater to both domestic and international demand.
It’s worth mentioning that Tesla had been engaged in negotiations with the Central government, seeking concessions that would facilitate a smoother entry into the Indian market. The demands for concessions were part of the broader discussions around easing regulatory hurdles and ensuring a conducive business environment for Tesla’s operations in the country.
Tesla coming to Gujarat will be another feather in Gujarat’s cap which already houses manufacturing facilities of top automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Morris Garage. While Ford facilities in Sanand were taken over by Tata, MG had taken over the GM plant in Halol.
