The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday recommended the appointment of five additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges.

As per the resolution uploaded on the website of the apex court, the judges recommended for permanent judgeship are Justices AA Nakkiran, Nidumolu Mala, S Sounthar, Sunder Mohan, and Kabali Kumaresh Babu.

As per the resolution, the Madras High Court\'s Collegium had unanimously recommended such appointment of the five judges on June 20 this year. The Chief Minister and Governor of Tamil Nadu concurred with the proposal.

As per the Memorandum of Procedure, judges of the Supreme Court conversant with the functioning of the Madras High Court were then consulted to assess the suitability of appointing the five judges as permanent judges.

Their judgments were also analysed by a two-judge committee, and the top court Collegium then scrutinised the material on record.

It resolved to recommend the appointments after noting that all five judges \'are fit and suitable for being appointed as permanent judges\'.
