Veteran actress and former Rajya Sabha member Jaya Prada has been reportedly sentenced to 6 months jail and fine of Rs 5000 in an old case. According to reports, the ‘Sharaabi’ actress owned a movie theatre in Chennai years ago with business partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu. However, they shut it down after facing unbearable losses. Reportedly, the staff members had filed a case against Jaya for allegedly not repaying the ESI amount that was deducted from their salaries. Soon after, the Labour Government Insurance Corporation filed a case against the three business partners at a Chennai court for non-payment of dues. Reports further stated that Jaya Prada admitted to the matter and gave her word to clear all the theatre staff’s dues while requesting the court to dismiss the case. However, her request was reportedly turned down and she was sentenced to the aforementioned punishment. Her business partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu were also found guilty in the case. More details on the same are awaited. Jaya Prada was one of the biggest actresses during the late 70’s and 80’s and she is known to have worked in several Telugu and Hindi films. ‘Siri Siri Muvva’, ‘Sargam’, ‘Sindoor’, ‘Maa’ and ‘Ooriki Monagadu’ are some of the memorable films of her film career. For more news and updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
