In a matter of big scare for FC Barcelona, key defender Ronald Araujo picked up an injury during the Joan Gamper Trophy clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Uruguayan international started the game at right-back and had looked good in the early exchanges.

However, close to the half-hour mark, the 24-year-old Barcelona defender seemed to have suffered from an injury and pulled up on the pitch.

It is unclear as to what might have caused the injury as Araujo had been on the receiving end of a rash challenge from an opposition player, while he had also made a powerful sprint down the right side, which could have led to muscle discomfort.

And, Araujo immediately turned to the bench and asked to be subbed off. Seconds later, the defender was replaced by Barcelona’s first captain Sergi Roberto.

This will be a matter of concern for the Blaugrana given the importance that Araujo carries in Xavi’s team.

It must also be remembered that new signing Inigo Martinez is still not fully fit while Andreas Christensen is also recovering from a small niggle he picked up on the US tour.

So, with the new season set to start in less than a week, Xavi & co. will be hoping that Araujo’s injury is not serious and that he can make a comeback at the earliest possible.
