In a shocking incident, two engineering students drowned to death in Kuakhai river on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Smruti Sourav Pradhan of Tamando area in Bhubaneswar and Satyajit Das of Rengali area in Angul district.
According to sources, Smruti and Satyajit along with some friends had gone to the river bank near Indrapal of Balipatna area for picnicking at about 7.30 AM. In the afternoon, they went to the river to take a bath. While taking a bath, they got trapped in the river current and went missing.
Nearby people immediately alerted the villagers and the Fire department.
A team from Balipatna fire station reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. They fished them out and rushed them to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced them received dead.
