MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in IPL (X.com)
The stage is set for an electrifying finale to the league stage of IPL 2024 with RCB taking on CSK in a do-or-die encounter for that all-important playoff spot. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be entering the 18th May encounter against Gaikwad’s CSK on the back of five consecutive wins and one more win combined with some conditions satisfied, they might make it to the playoffs in place of CSK in a dramatic turn of events.Â
CSK just need a win as they already have 14 points on the board, but a slip-up at Chinnaswamy might see them crashing out of the tournament. However, there is a rain threat also hanging around the corner, and here are scenarios depending on the duration of the match incase rain decide to arrive at Bengaluru on the D-day.
If RCB bat second in a 20-over match and CSK ended up scoring 200 on the board, Faf du Plessis and co. would need to chase it in 18.1 overs. In case of 19-over match, they would have to chase the same target in 17.1 overs while it if comes down to 10-over per side game, RCB would need to chase the 131-run target in just 8.1 overs. The 5-over game will make it even difficult for RCB as they would have to chase the 81-run target in just 19 balls.
If RCB bat first, then they have to restrict CSK to 182 if they post 200 on the board. In a 15-over game if RCB score 170, then they need to restrict CSK to 152 which is quite possible while in case of a five-over match, RCB would have to keep CSK to 62 or under if they end up scoring 80 on the board.
So, it is all to play for both the teams, and let’s see who comes out on top in this battle of titans at M. Chinnaswamy on Saturday, 18th of May.
