It’s been two years since Vijay Devarakonda’s Liger hit theaters on August 25. When the film was first announced, it was one of the biggest and most ambitious projects from Tollywood, directed by Puri Jagannadh and backed by Karan Johar. Liger was supposed to be Vijay’s grand pan-India launch, setting new standards in the industry.
However, things started looking bleak as the release date neared. The trailer, teaser, and songs failed to generate the buzz expected from such a massive project. Rumors began swirling that Liger might be a misfire.

Despite these concerns, fans held onto hope. After all, the collaboration between a director like Puri Jagannadh and a powerful talent like Vijay Devarakonda seemed like a recipe for success. But all those hopes were shattered on day one.
Liger turned out to be not just a disappointment but one of the worst films in recent memory. Made with a massive budget of 125 crores, it barely scraped together 50 crores at the box office.

The aftermath was devastating. Vijay Devarakonda went quiet, Puri Jagannadh was targetted by distributors and exhibitors who suffered heavy losses, and Ananya Panday’s doors closed forever in Tollywood.
Adding salt to the wounds, today Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions posted Liger’s poster with the caption, “Two years of the beast’s unstoppable force!”

Fans were immediately reminded of the painful experience they endured in theaters. The comment section was flooded with jokes and sarcastic remarks.
One fan commented, “Please don’t remind us of this torture.” Another joked, “Knew Karan Johar was pissed at Puri Jagannadh, but not to this extent!”
The post hit harder as it coincided with the anniversary of Vijay Devarakonda’s cult blockbuster Arjun Reddy, which fans were celebrating. Seeing the reminder of disaster Liger dampened their mood and ruined their Arjun Reddy celebrations.
