Indian Railways employees on Sunday pulled off something which is nothing less than a “miracle” when they ensured cleaning of several Vande Bharat Trains in just 14 minutes.
The new initiative, which was launched formally by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the Delhi Cantt. Railway Station, is aimed at reducing the cleaning time of the semi high-speed trains from three to four hours to just 14 minutes.
The cleaning system was simultaneously launched in more than 29 Vande Bharat trains at stations including Shirdi, Solapur, Ahmedabad, Kasaragod, Puri, Guwahati, Ranchi, and Chennai among others, and this will be a daily affair.
14 Minutes Miracle
The railway took a leaf from Japan’s bullet trains, which are cleaned and made ready for another journey within seven minutes, to improve Vande Bharat trains’ punctuality and turnaround time.
Vaishnaw has said the service has been made possible by enhancing the cleaning persons’ efficiency, skills and working attitude without increasing the number of front-line workforce already engaged in this activity
The new initiative coincides with the cleanliness drive– Swachhata-Hi-Seva campaign– launched by the Indian Railways in September.
The Ministry of Railways on Monday posted several videos on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, where railway workers can be seen cleaning Vande Bharat trains.
Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express was effectively cleaned under “14 minutes Miracle” scheme at Tirupati Railway Station.
Puri-Rourkela Vande Bharat Express underwent swift and efficient cleaning at Rourkela Railway Station.
Udaipur-Jaipur Vande Bharat Express was also cleaned in 14 minutes at Jaipur Railway Station.
Bengaluru-Dharwad Vande Bharat Express was also cleaned in 14 minutes.

The Railway Minister has said the concept will be “slowly and gradually” in other trains.
“Starting from Vande Bharat, we will apply the same concept in other trains slowly and gradually which will have a huge impact on improving their punctuality,” he said.
