1000 Babies is the new Malayalam TV series streaming this weekend on Hotstar, and here is our quick review on whether to stream it or skip it.
Firstly, “1000 Babies” features a talented cast, including Rahman, Neena Gupta, Sanju Sivaram, and several others who deliver solid performances. Among them, Rahman stands out in the lead role with a polished performance that perfectly suits the show’s mood, avoiding any over-the-top moments and proving to be an asset.
Though the show starts with a bit of a horror feel, the following episodes set up a crime investigative narrative in a unique backdrop that grabs instant interest.
The production quality is commendable, with impressive visuals and Sankar Sharma’s background score enhancing the experience. However, having seven episodes, each over 40 minutes long, makes it feel stretched.
Additionally, the show’s pace is not constant; it runs its investigation at its own speed. Despite occasional lulls, it manages to re-engage the viewer enough to finish the series.
The writing plays a key role. For a show as long as “1000 Babies,” the writing team (Najeem Koya, Arouz Irfan) put in commendable efforts to keep it fairly engaging.
As with most TV series, whether the ending satisfies viewers or not will depend on personal preference, but the show does leave a cliffhanger for another season.
