1 Lakh Layoffs in 6 Months

The tech industry has left its employees in fear. The number of layoffs have resulted in techies questioning their career choices.

Last year, the tech giants showed the door to employees due to economic recession. This year, in the race to catch up with AI, the employees are being given pink slips.

Though it’s 6 months in this year, already 1 lakh techies have been laid off by companies like Microsoft, Google, Meta and Intel. Microsoft had the highest number of layoffs this year.

9100 or 4% were relieved from their jobs. The tech giant announced layoffs for the fourth time this year. It sent home 1% staff at the beginning of the year. It ousted 6000 people in May.

In June, it removed 300 people. In a latest move, it removed employees from gaming, X-Box divisions. Last year, it removed 10,000 employees. They included software engineers and product developers.

Intel too is cutting 20% of its staff that include chip design senior engineers, cloud architects and executives.

Amazon has laid off employees for 4 times this year. Communication, Services, Wondery podcast employees were shown out. About 14,000 at the managerial level are on their way out, says a foreign publication.

IBM also removed 8000 employees mostly from HR jobs. Indian IT giant Infosys laid off 240 freshers recently. In February, it laid off 300 freshers.

Google laid off from Android, Chrome, Pixel departments. Earlier, it removed staff from Cloud and HR departments.

Meta removed 3600 employees this year. HP removed 2000 people while Tik Tok sent home 300 people from its Dublin office. Salesforce removed 1000 emoyees.

Siemens Group sent home 5600 employees from its automation and EV charging units. Many other companies have trimmed their workforce creating fear factor among tech employees.
